Contrasts…
Some of us remember the 1970s remember how the Good-think Department with the Regime Court Intellectuals decreed Affirmative Action to be a good thing. Unmoved black intellectuals protested loudly but the benign rulers muzzled such a reaction in Mockingbird Media.
That put the civil rights protests against tokenism to the dark corners of society, and “affirmative action” became the law and when clear-thinking minds protested this official subtle racism, cries went out in land about “racism” against the persons who were precisely protesting racism.
And then when the central planning Western commissars saw the body politic slipping out of their mind control, they started on a new thing. In blatant violation of the US Constitution, they began demanding that the sins of the past be remedied by piling on more sins, the return to the tokenism that had been such an insult to vocal minorities in the past.
Black Muslim periodicals in the past used to have articles lifting up good examples of entrepreneurship in their communities. Now they push for advocates of more illiberal policies that treat minorities like pets that need lots of attention and need their food and water bowls supplied by the billionaires who push those policies.
Somebody told a story once about how to capture a bunch of wild pigs. Put out a bunch of food they like in a small clearing, they’ll come and eat it up. The next week put up one side of a fence next to the food. The second week, put in another side of the fence. But keep feeding them, they’ll keep coming. The third week, the same thing. The fourth week, put up the final fence that encloses the area, but with a door that lets them in and out. The end of the fourth week, fix the door so it only lets them in to the food. Now you got a bunch of ham and sausage.
My youngest son, we played chess regularly when he was young. I always won the games. One day he asked me to let him in, meaning deliberately throw the game. I explained to him that I always played my best with him, and I would not deliberately throw the game, because that way, he would know when he beat me, it was because he had won fair and square.
It happened finally. Even though I had made a couple of unintentional mistakes, it still counts that he won “fair and square”.
Any government action with a purported intent of evening the score will always result in a worse outcome. Every time. Actions done under incentives or threats from an entity that claims a monopoly of force always “mess things up”.
