Obey the authorities of Romans 13

“But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” Psalm 75:6

So like good ol’ Nebby, God knows when the time for them is up.

“Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword” –Ps 17:13
“From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.” – v 14

During the book of Judges, when the people sought the Lord, God protected them. Without a king, without an army, without police authorities, any of that. When the people turned away from God, God brought a new set of oppressors. When they then repented, God raised up a leader for an army and drove out the bad guy rulers. God’s purpose fulfilled.

I just read a post by arguing for the position that this is what Romans 13 means when Paul admonishes them that the police authorities are to obeyed implicitly. But he does not argue they are good for this.
