Transcendence: Immortality? Only in Jesus….

Today I watched the movie Transcendence.

The thread of the story line centers on the idea of runaway artificial intelligence, with a mix of the New-Age-sounding transcendence. It weaves a story out of the ages-old discussion of what consciousness is, the soul, self-awareness, machines.

Lots of smart people just don’t get it: machines are just machines, and artificial machines are just switches, on and off, bits and bytes, and programmed instructions. Player pianos. Do player pianos have souls? Just like Nimrod with his tower of Babel, some people have grandiose ideas of what they can create.

Kurzweil wants to upload himself into a computer. Computer has no soul, no nuance, there isn’t the biological imperative configuration that flows into so much of what we do as humans.

Better to count on the reality of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

JOHN 25:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
